This video is an excerpt from Philippe Léon’s instructional DVD, Aikido – Vol. 2: Tantodori.
🔖 Technique Notes
This variation of Hiji Otoshi demonstrated by Philippe Léon Sensei begins with Tori evading the Tsuki by entering to the outside and pivoting through a Tenkan. Tori then captures Uke’s wrist with the nearest hand, pronating with his palm facing upward, and lifts it to create space. With an Enka pivot, Tori turns to face the opposite direction while passing under Uke’s arm, and concludes the technique by cutting down through Uke’s elbow to execute the throw. The video extract is too short, but we can assume that Tori maintains control on the ground, pinning Uke's elbow.
