🔖 Technique Notes

In this excerpt, Chiba Sensei demonstrates an Ude Garami applied not to the attacking arm, but to the other arm. He evades the incoming punch by first stepping inside with the back leg, then stepping back with the front leg, changing his hanmi so that he and Uke are in the same stance, left foot forward. As he steps back, he absorbs the punch with a circular downward-and-outward parry. He then places his free hand on Uke’s shoulder to unbalance him forward, while the other hand secures an underhook. Controlling both arm and shoulder, Tori uses the forward kuzushi to guide Uke to the ground into an Ude Garami pin.
