Kote Gaeshi – Tsuneo Ando Budō Manual Variation
⛩️ Source
This excerpt comes from an Ando Tsuneo seminar held in Moscow in 2015.
🔖 Technique Notes
This Kote Gaeshi closely ressembles the one shown in the 1938 Budō manual.
As in this manual, Kote Gaeshi is performed extending and unbalancing of Uke backwards, achieved by Tori stepping diagonally behind Uke, turning his back completely to him.
However, unlike the Kote Gaeshi in the manual, the variation shown here emphasises the Atemi delivered just before the throw is completed.
As many of the photographic sequences in the manual are incomplete, it is possible that Morihei Ueshiba did indeed perform it this way, but we can neither confirm nor deny this.
The pin controlling Uke on the ground here is also different from the one shown in the Budō manual.
