Tsuki – Bokutō Defense against Ōdachi

In this sequence, as Uke launches a Tsuki, Tori steps off the line to the inside while deflecting Uke’s Ōdachi. From this position, he is able either to deliver a horizontal cut or to establish control. Because of the length of the Ōdachi, the thrust is inherently unstable and tends to waver off line, making the deflection easier.
