🔖 Technique Notes

Tori avoids the Jōdan Tsuki by entering to the outside with a 90° Tenkan pivot, aligning himself perpendicular to Uke’s centerline and parrying Uke’s striking arm downward. Uke then turns to face Tori again and throws a second punch with the other hand, aiming for Tori’s head. Tori intercepts this arm by controlling it at the forearm with one hand, while threading the other arm under Uke’s armpit and wrapping around Uke’s arm—similar to the entry for Judō’s Ippon Seoi Nage, though without clamping the arm as tightly. Tori then executes a Seoi Nage-like action with deeper hip placement, shifting Uke’s rotation onto Tori’s hips instead of over the shoulder, as would normally happen in a classical Ippon Seoi Nage.
