🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke attacks with a Chūdan Tsuki, Tori enters to the inside and performs a full Tenkan 180° pivot while taking control of Uke’s Jō—one hand near the tip, the other placed between Uke’s hands. Uke follows Tori’s movement, and as he turns to face him again, Tori continues the rotation by bringing the Jō upright in a vertical position (with the hand between Uke’s hands positioned above). Tori then lowers his level and passes underneath both of Uke’s arms while Uke is still turning. They end in a T-angle, roughly 90° to each other, with Uke—unlike most Koshi Nage variations—facing Tori’s hips with his rear rather than his front. From there, Uke rolls over Tori’s hips as Tori steps across his line, rolling in a backflip-like motion. Uke doesn’t fully land on his feet and instead falls again in a standard Ushiro Ukemi.
