Tachi Dōri Koshi Nage from Kote Gaeshi

🍃 Advanced 📅 2002 🎓 Tutorial

This excerpt comes from the DVD “Irimi, Buki, Koshi, and Za: Aikido” by Hiroshi Ikeda (Bu-Jin Design, 2002).

🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke strikes Shōmen Uchi, Tori evades by entering to the outside with an almost 180° Tenkan pivot (slightly diagonal, so not fully square), while taking hold of Uke’s hand. As Uke turns to face him again, Tori switches Hanmi, bringing the rear leg forward and placing his hips in front of Uke as he applies the Kote Gaeshi cutting motion. This action effectively “bumps” Tori’s hips into Uke as the Kote Gaeshi unbalances him, adding extra drive to the projection.
