Tantō Dōri Koshi Nage from Shihō Nage (Uke’s Arm Extended)

⚠️ Dangerous 📅 2002 🎓 Tutorial

This excerpt comes from the DVD “Irimi, Buki, Koshi, and Za: Aikido” by Hiroshi Ikeda (Bu-Jin Design, 2002).

🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke attacks Yokomen Uchi, Tori enters with the classical inside Shihō Nage entry, using a full Tenkan 180° pivot that also turns Uke and breaks his balance. Tori then continues the Shihō Nage action by raising Uke’s arm while keeping it extended. Instead of pivoting through to finish in the standard Shihō Nage manner, Tori drops his level and places his hips alongside Uke’s hips, slightly lower, with both hips aligned on the same line. Uke is then projected across Tori’s hips while his arm remains extended in the Shihō Nage position.
