🔖 Technique Notes

Tori holds a Bokutō in his right hand, resting it on his left shoulder, and a Wakizashi in his left hand, held in a Waki Kamae-like stance. From this Waki Kamae-like position, Tori has his left foot forward and his left shoulder forward (protected by the Bokutō), which helps keep the Wakizashi out of Uke’s direct view. As Uke raises his Katana, before he even has time to start his Shōmen Uchi strike, Tori throws the Wakizashi toward Uke’s face as a distraction, then brings the Bokutō back to the left shoulder and delivers a Kesa Giri. Tori’s timing here is Sen Sen no Sen, as he initiates the action before Uke has the time to begin the cut.
