🔖 Technique Notes

Uke grabs Kata Dōri, and Tori responds with Men Uchi. As Uke raises his arm to protect himself, they end up in a Kata Dōri Men Uchi position (this position can be reached either from Uke attacking Men Uchi, or from Tori initiating it—Nishio Sensei previously showed that, as Tori, he preferred taking the initiative).
Tori turns and lowers Uke’s Men Uchi arm, then re-raises it as Uke turns back to face him again, as if preparing to do Ikkyō. He takes the Men Uchi arm with the same kind of grip used for Ikkyō, but instead of continuing the technique, he grabs and lifts Uke’s other arm (the Kata Dōri arm) by controlling the sleeve.
With both of Uke’s arms raised, Tori has enough space to step in and position his body between them, lowering his center and aligning himself perpendicular to Uke’s line of stance, forming a “T” shape. He then executes Koshi Nage, lowering Uke’s arms as he steps through, making Uke pivot over his hips.
