🔖 Technique Notes
This sequence uses the same entry structure as Nishio Sensei’s Shihō Nage, but in a shortened form. In the “classic” Nishio entry, Tori delivers two Atemi to Uke’s face: first a preemptive strike while the other arm protects against the incoming attack, then a second strike with the protecting arm—a vertical descending Atemi similar to Shōmen Uchi.
In this more advanced variation, the first strike is skipped. Tori goes straight to what would normally be the second Atemi: a descending strike, but delivered on a more diagonal line, like a Yokomen Uchi. With that same striking arm, Tori makes contact with Uke’s attacking arm, guiding it down and then lifting it back up on the inside in a circular motion that draws Uke’s arm inward. This creates space for Tori to get to the outside and do a Tenkan pivot, ending side-by side with Uke, as he grabs Uke's wrist.
Tori then finishes by stepping his lead leg back, drawing Uke into a turn to face him, and applying Kote Gaeshi. Once Uke falls, Tori manteins control.
