🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke attacks Shōmen Uchi, Tori steps to the outside with his rear leg, bringing it forward to become the lead leg while shifting into a more bladed stance to move off the centerline. At the same time, he delivers an Atemi with the hand on the same side as the advancing leg, striking the side of the back of Uke’s head with Shutō (knife hand), while the other hand makes contact with Uke’s attacking arm and follows its downward trajectory.
The striking hand then takes over the contact at Uke’s wrist, replacing the first hand, as that free hand delivers a second Atemi to Uke’s face while Tori draws his front foot back to align with his rear foot. Tori then seizes Uke’s wrist with the hand that just struck, steps in toward Uke’s back with the same-side leg, and raises Uke’s arm. From there, he turns with Tenkan, taking control of Uke’s elbow, follows with an Enka pivot, and completes the sequence by taking Uke to the ground with Ikkyō Ura.
