🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke attacks Shōmen Uchi, Tori steps to the outside with his rear leg, bringing it forward to become the lead leg while shifting into a more bladed stance to move off the centerline. At the same time, he delivers an Atemi with the hand on the same side as the advancing leg, striking the side of the back of Uke’s head with Shutō (knife hand), then placing that hand at Uke’s elbow, while the other hand makes contact with Uke’s attacking arm and follows its downward trajectory.
From there, Tori enters with a Soto Kaiten–type movement: the rear hand slides to the back of Uke’s neck while the other hand remains at the elbow, initiating Uke’s rotation. However, instead of finishing with Soto Kaiten Nage, Uke continues the rotation fully and ends up facing upward, with Tori positioned behind him. From this position, Tori places one arm on each side of Uke’s neck and connects his hands.
This configuration is comparable to Hadaka Jime, but with Uke’s head oriented downward rather than upward—somewhat akin to a reversed Kubi Nage position, with Uke facing up instead of down. The choke does not require pulling: Uke is compressed by his own body weight, creating a hanging-like choking effect.
