🔖 Technique Notes

Harai Tsurikomi Ashi, or "lifting pulling foot sweep," is a Jūdō throw where the attacker (tori) off-balances the opponent (uke) forward and slightly to the side, creating a wheeling motion. Tori uses the hands to lift and pull uke’s upper body in one direction while simultaneously sweeping uke’s foot or lower leg with the instep or edge of the foot in the opposite direction, usually at the ankle or lower shin. The key is the coordinated tsurikomi action — the upper body control unbalances uke while the sweeping foot redirects their weight to complete the throw. Even if uke is moving, the technique remains Harai Tsurikomi Ashi as long as the principle of off-balancing with the hands and sweeping the leg in opposition is maintained.
