Kokyū Nage Preventing Katana Draw – Tsuka Grab with downward-to-forward drop

🍃 Advanced 📅 1994 🎓 Tutorial

This excerpt is from a seminar led by Sadateru Arikawa Sensei in Paris, France, on June 5, 1994.

🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke begins to draw his Katana, Tori immediately seizes the handle from above and lowers his hips, directing the weapon downward between Uke’s legs to break his structure. The entire action is executed as one continuous circular movement: first descending to create Kuzushi, then transitioning forward without pause. Following this arc, Tori carries his full body weight forward—almost falling forward himself—projecting Uke backward and causing him to fall onto his back.
