Muna Dōri Yokomen Uchi – Katate Dōri Kubishime – Yoseikan Budō Hyōri no Kata
⛩️ Source
This extract comes from the BAB Japan instructional DVD series, released in early 2000, with Volume 2 specifically published on January 26, 2000, and both volumes supervised by Minoru Mochizuki Sensei, who oversaw the filming, choreographed demonstrations, and performed many techniques personally. The technique demonstrated here comes from the Hyōri no Kata, a kata created by Minoru Mochizuki that simulates combat in armor. It is performed in slow-motion and consists entirely of Kaeshi Waza (counter techniques). In this DVD, this kata is demonstrated by Minoru Mochizuki Sensei’s students.
🔖 Technique Notes
Uke seizes Muna Dōri and delivers a Yokomen Uchi with his rear hand, without advancing the leg on the striking side.
Tori enters to the inside while blocking the strike. He guides Uke’s attacking arm downward, transfers it to his opposite hand, and secures the wrist once the arm is lowered. He then raises the captured arm again, creating forward kuzushi and prompting Uke to step forward with his rear leg.
As Uke steps, Tori performs a Tenkan pivot at a 90° angle, finishing behind Uke. When Uke’s arm is lifted to a horizontal position, Tori reaches around from behind to seize Uke’s lapel. Drawing both arms backward—one controlling the wrist and the other gripping the lapel—he applies the choke, Katate Dōri Kubishime.
