🔖 Technique Notes
Sumi Gaeshi, or "corner reversal," is a Jūdō sacrifice throw in which the Tori off-balances the Uke forward or slightly to the side, then drops backward while placing one foot against Uke’s near thigh or hip. Tori uses the hands to pull and lift Uke’s upper body in the opposite direction of the planted foot, creating a pivot point over which Uke is flipped. The throw relies on Uke’s forward momentum and the sharp upward-lifting action of Tori’s leg to roll Uke over Tori’s head or shoulder, completing the sacrifice technique.
