Hanmi Handachi Waza Ushiro Ryō Kata Dōri – Kokyū Nage – Bowing Forward Overextension Variation
⛩️ Source
This excerpt comes from a 1935 demonstration by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei at the Osaka Asahi Journal, directed by Hisa Takuma.
🔖 Technique Notes
Tori is seated in seiza while Uke stands. Uke runs in to seize Tori’s shoulder (Kata Dōri). As the grip is taken, Tori performs an Enka pivot, turning his back to Uke and allowing him to secure the second shoulder (Ushiro Ryō Kata Dōri).
During the pivot, Tori bows forward in the same direction as Uke’s incoming momentum, advancing and lowering both shoulders at the same time. This forward-and-downward bowing motion amplifies Uke’s own drive, overextending his posture, breaking his balance, and causing him to fall forward.
