🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke strikes Shōmen Uchi, Tori sidesteps to the inside. He raises his lead arm to protect himself and takes hold of Uke’s wrist. At the same time, he delivers an atemi to Uke’s neck with his other hand, which holds a Tantō in Gyakute (reverse grip). The strike is made with the butt end, though it could be a decisive thrust if held in Honte. This hand then moves to Uke’s elbow, placing the hand over the joint while the Tantō hooks it to maintain control and keep the possibility to cut. In one continuous movement, Tori brings Uke’s arm down and completes Ikkyō Omote, taking Uke to the ground. As Uke is on the ground, Tori threatens him with the Tantō while maintaining control.
