🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke strikes Shōmen Uchi, Tori evades to the outside at a 90° angle to the line of attack and performs an Enka pivot. During the pivot, he draws his Tantō in Gyakute (reverse grip) and places the blade on the inside of Uke’s lead wrist, hooking it, while simultaneously reaching underneath to grasp the Bokutō between Uke’s hands. Tori then turns to face the outside and raises, then lowers Uke’s arms in a circular motion. This motion turns Uke’s wrist through the path of the Bokutō handle, which Tori controls while Uke is still holding it, effectively applying a Kote Gaeshi. The rotation and unbalancing are reinforced by the blade hooked on Uke’s wrist, and the combined action of both hands throws Uke.
