🔖 Technique Notes
Tori holds Uke in a side control position. He takes Uke’s wrist and secures a Kimura grip by wrapping his arm around Uke’s arm and grabbing his own wrist, establishing a Ude Garami (Kimura). Alternatively, instead of taking the wrist, Tori can grasp the blade of Uke’s hand to apply a Sankyō wristlock. With this Sankyō control, Tori can lock Uke’s shoulder and establish the Ude Garami (Kimura) without grabbing his own wrist, thus without using the classic Kimura grip. The same control can be applied if Uke is on his side, with Tori on one knee and the lead foot positioned behind Uke’s head. From this position, Tori steps back to turn Uke onto his belly, and can finish with the classic Aikidō Ude Garami pin, securing Uke’s arm between his knees. Tori then keeps the control as he stands up.
