🔖 Technique Notes
Uke grabs Tori’s wrist in Ai Hanmi Katate Dōri to prevent him from drawing his Katana. Tori redirects the pressure by stepping to the outside, rotating his hands downward and then outward and upward to position the Katana handle atop Uke’s wrist in a Nikyō configuration—similar to Shutō Zume, but using the Katana handle instead of the knife hand. Tori then retreats his rear leg to open his hips and draw the Katana, stepping back while placing his free hand on the blade in a half-swording position at the level of Uke’s neck as he guides him to the ground. While doing so, Tori maintains control of the wrist, keeps Uke’s arm in a Z position, and continues to control and threaten with the blade.
