Christian Tissier Sensei’s Kote Gaeshi is characterized by a pivot in which Tori turns his back to Uke while maintaining rotational control of the wrist. As he turns, Tori’s free hand performs a downward cutting motion toward Uke’s far leg, which emphasizes Uke’s circular movement. As the Kote Gaeshi is then applied in the opposite direction, this circular motion is stopped and reversed, giving the final execution a sharper and more defined finish.
