Drop Kata Guruma – No Leg Grip Variation
⛩️ Source
This excerpt is taken from the YouTube video "How to Execute the Drop Kata-Guruma: Step-by-Step Guide", demonstrated by Simon Gaudreault on the Matsuru channel.
🔖 Technique Notes
From a standard Jūdō Kumikata (both hands gripping Sode Eri Dōri), Tori drops onto both knees, positioning his lead knee between Uke’s legs and perpendicular to Uke’s stance. Simultaneously, he releases the original sleeve grip to seize Uke’s inside arm at the tricep, using leverage to load Uke onto his shoulders. He then rotates and tips forward, wheeling Uke over his shoulders and throwing him onto his back, as in the classic Kata Guruma, but executed with both knees on the mat and without controlling Uke’s leg.
