Ganmen Dōri (Face Grab) with Shakō Ken (Hawk Claw Fist)
⛩️ Source
This picture likely comes from Hatsumi Sensei’s 1983 book Togakure-ryū Ninpō Taijutsu, published by Shinjinbutsu Ōraisha in April 1983. The image could match the description of Picture 411 in the book, and Hatsumi Sensei appears to be around the same age as in other confirmed photos from this publication. However, since we have not been able to access a full copy of the book, we cannot be completely certain.
🔖 Technique Notes
The description of Picture 411 in the book appears could match this technique: “Picture 411: I grab him with my right and left shāko ken.”
This technique uses the Shakō Ken (Hawk Claw Fist) to grab the opponent’s face (Ganmen Dōri), with the pinkies hooking into the cheeks like “fish hooks” and the middle fingers hooking or poking the eyes, unbalancing Uke backward.
