Gyaku Hanmi Katate Dōri – Nikyō with the Tessen (Metal Fan) – Kick Entry and Step-Back Variation

Uke grabs Tori’s unarmed wrist in Gyaku Hanmi Katate Dōri. As the wrist is seized, Tori turns his hand outward, keeping it open, and positions his thumb just beneath Uke’s wrist. He then places his Tessen across Uke’s wrist and closes his hand over it—his thumb remaining underneath. As Tori curls his fingers and tightens the grip, the pressure of the Tessen locks Uke’s wrist in a Nikyō position.
At the same time, Tori delivers a kick to Uke’s groin or midsection. As he brings the foot back to the floor, he steps back while completing the closing of his grip, driving Uke downward.
