Jūken Dōri – Kokyū Nage – Forward Drop Redirection Variation

🍃 Advanced 📅 1935 🎥 Demonstration 🎲 Explore

⛩️ Source

This excerpt comes from a 1935 demonstration by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei at the Osaka Asahi Journal, directed by Hisa Takuma.

🔖 Technique Notes

Uke thrusts with a Jūken (bayonet). Tori steps to the outside and seizes the weapon from above with his lead hand, near Uke’s lead hand. As he takes hold from above, Tori pivots to face the same direction as Uke and drops his upper body downward, bringing the grabbing hand nearly to the ground. This sudden drop slightly overextends Uke along his thrust and redirects his momentum straight downward, causing him to fall.
