🔖 Technique Notes

Uke thrusts with a Jūken (bayonet). Tori enters to the outside to get off the line, makes contact with the weapon using his lead hand without gripping, and redirects it to a 45° angle while taking a matching 45° angle with his body. As he redirects it, he guides the weapon toward his rear hand, which seizes it.
Tori then raises the rear hand over his head, extending the arm and lifting the tip of the Jūken, while the lead hand grabs the weapon from underneath, palm facing up, between Uke’s hands. He begins to raise this lead hand, but once it reaches the level of his upper torso, he redirects it downward and behind Uke in a circular path. This motion turns Uke to face the opposite direction and unbalances him backward.
Maintaining this circular trajectory, Tori uses the Jūken as a lever—raising the lead hand (the one between Uke’s hands) toward Uke’s face while lowering the hand controlling the tip—and cuts down toward Uke’s face, causing him to fall. As he executes the cut, Tori pivots on his lead foot, bringing the rear foot into alignment with the direction of the cut.
