Uki Goshi, or “floating hip throw,” is a classic Judō technique in which Tori positions the hip slightly off-center beneath Uke’s center of gravity, maintaining a relatively light grip—often just one hand around the back or waist—without tightly pulling Uke in. From this position, Tori rotates Uke over the hip using a subtle sliding and pivoting motion, relying on the redirection of Uke’s balance rather than lifting them forcefully. The throw feels flowing and light, emphasizing timing and control over raw strength.
