Koshi Nage from Shihō Nage (similar to Kōdōkan Jūdō’s Uki Goshi) – Yoshio Kuroiwa Variation
⛩️ Source
This video is an extract from Yoshio Kuroiwa Sensei’s demonstration at the first Aiki News Friendship Demonstration, held in Tokyo in April 1985.
🔖 Technique Notes
This video shows Yoshio Kuroiwa Sensei performing a Koshi Nage from a Shiho Nage position. The execution of this throw is similar to Kodokan Jūdō's Uki Goshi, as Yoshio Kuroiwa Sensei positions his hip just off-center beneath Uke’s center of gravity, uses a light arm extension to lengthen Uke’s body, and rotates Uke over the hip with a subtle sliding and pivoting motion. Unlike the traditional Uki Goshi, however, Kuroiwa grips and extends Uke’s nearest arm rather than the farthest.
