This technique is illustrated in Figures 17–20 of the 1938 edition of Budō, a technical manual personally authored by Morihei Ueshiba.
🔖 Technique Notes
This is a translation from the description of the technique from the Budō manual :
"Tori: Fill yourself with ki and encourage your opponent to strike you with a shomen.
Uke: Strike with a shomen from the right te-gatana (17).
Tori: Step forward with your left foot and perform irimi-tenkan (or, depending on the circumstances, sometimes tai-no-henka) while striking your opponent's right wrist with your left te-gatana (18). Grasp their right hand from above, pressing your thumb against the base of their ring finger and little finger, step back with your left foot while forcefully twisting their wrist with both hands to make them fall (19). Follow up with an arm lock (20). The twist will force your attacker into complete immobility.".
The distinctive feature of this Kote Gaeshi compared to more modern forms is the extension and unbalancing of Uke backwards, achieved by Tori stepping diagonally behind Uke, turning his back completely to him. The immobilisation shown here following the Kote Gaeshi appears to be the immobilisation of Shiho-Nage.
