🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke strikes Shōmen Uchi, Tori sidesteps to the outside with his rear leg, raising his lead arm to protect against the attacking arm. In the same movement, he draws his Tantō with his free hand, holding it in Gyakute (reverse grip), and places the blade on Uke’s lead hand wrist, on the inside of the wrist, hooking it. With both hands, Tori deflects Uke’s arm slightly downward and to the inside, as his lead hand takes hold of Uke’s hand while the other maintains control at the wrist with the Tantō. He then reverses the direction, turning Uke’s hand outward and rotating the wrist, applying Kote Gaeshi and throwing Uke.
