Motarekomi Sutemi is a sacrifice throwing technique (sutemi-waza) whose origins lie in classical jujutsu rather than modern competitive judo. The term motarekomi refers to “leaning in” or “pressing with the body,” describing a method where the practitioner commits their weight and structure onto the opponent before sacrificing balance to bring them down. This reflects older jujutsu principles focused on body connection, pressure, and control at close range. Like many koryū sutemi techniques, Motarekomi Sutemi is not formally codified in Kodokan judo and appears instead across various traditional schools and later aikijujutsu-influenced systems, where effectiveness and adaptability took precedence over standardized form.
