🔖 Technique Notes

Uke places Tori’s arm in a Nikyō Ura configuration: one hand controls Tori’s hand with the thumb pressing over Tori’s thumb, while the other secures the wrist, folding and compressing it against Uke’s torso so that Tori’s arm forms a Z-shape.
As Uke lowers his body to apply the wrist compression and rotation, Tori is normally forced to follow the pressure downward, often dropping to one knee due to structural control and pain compliance.
To counter this, instead of continuing all the way down, Tori redirects his descending momentum into a jump. Using Uke’s downward and forward movement, he rolls onto his far shoulder and drives his shoulders deep between Uke’s legs. The inside leg lifts and threads between Uke’s legs, positioning against Uke’s inner thigh in the same orientation as in Uchi Mata, functioning as an inner-thigh lift, while the outside leg remains to the outside to form a trapping structure.
As he lands on the far shoulder, Tori immediately collects the heel and continues the roll, completing the throw. Once grounded, he transitions directly into a knee bar.
