🔖 Technique Notes
From an over-the-back grip and Uke's nearest sleeve grip, or from Tori’s overhook with Uke’s underhook Tori positions himself close to Uke and inserts his instep deeply against Uke’s far leg. Maintaining tight upper-body connection through the collar grip, Tori lays his hips directly onto Uke’s hips, closing all space between their centers of gravity.
He then drops his weight downward, effectively sitting onto Uke’s heel while keeping the upper body controlled. Simultaneously, Tori straightens the inserted leg, creating a powerful upward lifting action through the far thigh while his hips drive forward. This combined hip pressure and leg extension disrupts Uke’s balance vertically and loads the far leg.
The action of Podsad is characterized by this coordinated sequence: deep instep insertion on the far leg, hips placed onto Uke’s hips, sitting onto the heel, and immediate leg extension to elevate and destabilize.
