🔖 Technique Notes

Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi, or 'blocking lifting-pulling foot', is a Judō throw where Tori blocks Uke’s advancing foot with the sole or ankle while pulling upward and forward on Uke’s sleeve or lapel. The block stops Uke’s step, creating Kuzushi, and the coordinated lift-pull motion allows Tori to rotate and throw Uke over the blocked leg. Proper placement of the foot—against the lower part of Uke’s shin or just above the ankle, slightly in front of or to the side of Uke’s foot—is essential to maintain control and maximize leverage.
