🔖 Technique Notes

This sequence demonstrated by Philippe Léon Sensei begins with an Uchi Kaiten Sankyō entry, passing under Uke’s arm, but instead of completing the Sankyō, Tori transitions into a Sutemi. Throughout the entry and the sacrifice movement, Tori continuously redirects the blade of the Tantō toward Uke’s head. As Tori drops to the ground in a perpendicular position beside Uke, the blade remains aligned toward Uke’s face, maintaining a constant threat. Uke’s fall is therefore induced not only by the Sutemi itself, but also by the sustained pressure and incentive to move created by the menacing line of the blade.
