🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke strikes Shōmen Uchi, Tori enters to the inside and, once the cut has come down, takes hold of the Bokutō from above with his now rear hand, gripping the back of the blade, while simultaneously placing the edge of the Tantō, held in Honte (normal grip), on Uke’s lead wrist from underneath. As he enters, Tori performs a Tenkan pivot at 90° relative to the line of attack and, with the hand controlling the Bokutō, extends Uke’s motion downward and to the inside, already unbalancing him, while cutting Uke’s wrist with the Tantō at the same time. Tori then continues the motion by raising the Bokutō as he steps in with his rear leg, passing under Uke’s arm and creating a Shihō Nage kuzushi. After passing through, he performs an Enka pivot and cuts down with the hand holding the Bokutō, while also cutting down Shōmen Uchi with the Tantō. The combined downward actions, together with the threat of the Tantō cut, force Uke to fall, both from the Shihō Nage action and to avoid being cut.
