🔖 Technique Notes

Tori makes contact with Uke’s raised arm using his rear hand, with the inside of the wrist meeting the inside of Uke’s wrist, likely parrying an incoming strike. Simultaneously, he controls Uke’s throat (more precisely the glottis), in a manner similar to Gichin Funakoshi’s Nodo Osae or the Daitō-ryū Aikijūjutsu technique Kubi Wa.
By applying pressure to the throat, Tori forces Uke into a backward bend, compromising his balance. It is important to note that both of Tori’s feet are positioned behind Uke’s line of stance. The exact placement of Tori’s lead foot is not visible, but it can reasonably be inferred that it is either crossing Uke’s foot line to act as a barrier, or positioned to execute a sweep or reap.
