🔖 Technique Notes
Ushiro Kesa Gatame, or "reverse scarf hold," is a Jūdō osaekomi-waza in which Uke lies on the back while Tori pins from a side position, turning the back toward Uke. Tori controls the nearest arm of Uke by wrapping it with the corresponding arm, securing it tightly, while the other arm reaches across Uke’s body to grip the trousers of the far leg, reinforcing control. Tori lowers the head and chest toward the mat, placing weight through Uke’s torso, while keeping the hips low and the legs extended for base and stability. The control focuses on immobilizing Uke’s upper body while stretching the body across the pin, preventing rotation or escape, and maintaining continuous pressure.
