🔖 Technique Notes
Yoko Wakare, or "side separation," is a Jūdō throw in which Tori sacrifices their own balance by dropping sideways to the mat, pulling Uke forward and slightly past them while maintaining upper-body control. As Uke’s weight shifts forward, Tori rotates their body onto their side and draws Uke over the torso in a sideways wrapping motion, causing Uke to topple over and land in front of or across Tori. The throw relies on precise timing and commitment rather than lifting power, using Uke’s forward momentum and the sharp lateral drop to create separation and complete the sacrifice technique.
