The demo is an All-Japan Yoshinkan Aikido demonstration that most plausibly took place in the mid-1980s — with 1984, 1985 or 1986 being the strongest candidates — but cannot currently be unambiguously confirmed by a published Japanese source online.
🔖 Technique Notes
In this excerpt, Gozo Shioda Sensei demonstrates a defense against Mae Geri (front kick) by sidestepping and cutting into the attacking leg at the level of the knee joint with Te Gatana. Although he clearly indicates the precise anatomical target, he intentionally strikes higher on the thigh in order to preserve his Uke’s safety.
