🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke attacks Men Uchi, Tori redirects the strike upward while moving to the outside and slipping under the attacking arm. In the same motion, he takes Uke’s wrist with the parrying hand and places his other hand at Uke’s elbow. Tori then drops his level and brings his hips across Uke’s centerline, forming a perpendicular T-position, and completes Koshi Nage by stepping through and lowering Uke’s arm, causing Uke to pivot and roll over Tori’s hips.

Nishio Sensei then highlights the Atemi opportunities within this sequence.
As Tori enters and parries the attack with one arm, the free hand can strike first—either with a spearhand Tsuki to the throat or directly to the face.
As that same hand moves into position at Uke’s elbow, it can deliver a second Atemi, an elbow strike to the midsection or to the chin.
Finally, as Tori sinks to set the hips for Koshi Nage, the same hand can deliver a third Atemi to the groin, all while maintaining the flow of the throw.
