🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke attacks with Chūdan Tsuki, Tori, standing in Shizentai with both feet on the same line, slightly retreats the foot on the side of Uke’s punch. Using the opposite hand, he deflects the attack inward toward Uke’s center with a circular parry that moves from low to high, similar to Uchi Uke. Continuing the rotation, Tori seizes Uke’s arm.
Next, Uke attacks with his rear hand using a Jōdan Tsuki. Tori parries with an Age Uke, raising his arm to redirect the strike upward. He continues the rotation, first toward Uke while he grabs the arm, then downward and outward. At this point, both of Uke’s arms are controlled and crossed: the lead arm points to Uke’s inside while the rear arm lies over it pointing to Uke’s outside.
Tori then steps to Uke’s inside and executes a Tenkan pivot. From this position, he finishes the movement as Aikidō's Jūji Nage — essentially applying Ikkyō to one of Uke’s arms, while using the other arm to press on Uke’s elbow. This configuration functions like an armbar on the elbow, leveraging the crossed-arm position.
In this variation, rather than completing a full throw, Tori uses the technique to unbalance Uke forward, so the movement could either represent a throw or a breaking technique.
