🔖 Technique Notes

Tori takes hold of Uke’s attacking arm with both hands, placing one hand on Uke’s hand to lock and control the wrist, then lowers his body into a horse stance, pulling the arm to unbalance Uke forward. From this position, Tori raises Uke’s arm on the inside and orients his body inward, as in the beginning of Shihō Nage Omote, creating the Shihō Nage kuzushi with the shoulder controlled through the wrist and elbow alignment. From this position, Tori could deliver an elbow and continue into a Sokumen Irimi Nage variation if there were more distance, but here he is too close to apply it effectively. Maintaining the grip on Uke’s hand, Tori releases his other hand and moves directly to Uke’s back with his outside hand, reaching to grab Uke’s chin from behind the head. The position is similar to Katate Dōri Kubishime, but with Tori pulling Uke’s chin instead of the lapel. He then twists the chin upward and to the side while performing an Enka pivot and lowering his now rear knee to the ground, thus lowering his whole body and bringing Uke down.
