🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke secures a cross-collar grip (Eri Dōri), Tori steps to the inside with his lead leg at a 45° angle, opening the lead foot and raising the heel of the rear foot. As he steps, he delivers an atemi to Uke’s face with his lead hand, while his other arm (on the grabbed side) drops his weight onto the inside of Uke’s elbow, leaning with the forearm, palm facing up and aligned with his center, unbalancing Uke. He then takes Uke’s sleeve with the hand that was on the elbow, and places the atemi hand on Uke’s cheek, turning Uke’s face to the outside. In one continuous movement, Tori performs an Enka pivot and cuts downward as he drops the knee on the side of the cutting hand to the ground, bringing Uke down.
