🔖 Technique Notes
A Flying Jūji Gatame is a Sutemi Waza (sacrifice technique) in which you use your body weight and momentum to transition directly into an armbar (Jūji Gatame). Begin by establishing firm grips—typically one hand controlling the opponent’s sleeve at the elbow and the other at the collar or triceps. Step in, loading their arm across your centerline, then launch yourself, swinging your lead leg over their shoulder and your trailing leg across their back as you fall onto your back. Land with your hips tight to their shoulder, knees pinched, and the opponent’s thumb pointing upward, then extend your hips while maintaining control of the wrist to finish the armbar (Jūji Gatame).
