Irimi Nage – Closed-fist Shikanken Atemi finish Variation

⚠️ Dangerous 📅 1956 🏛 Archive

⛩️ Source

This picture comes from “le précieux carnet d’études de Jean Delforge (images et notes manuscrites)”, Jean Delforge’s own training notebook passed down to his student Bernard Grillot. The picture is labeled as “1956, dojo de Gare du Nord”, and was thus taken in the Gare du Nord dojo in Paris.

🔖 Technique Notes

In this picture, Uke is unbalanced forward, following the typical Kuzushi of Irimi Nage. Tori is positioned behind uke, maintaining control of the nape of the neck, and completes the technique with an atemi to Uke’s face, just below the eye. The Atemi appears to be delivered with a closed fist using the second knuckles (the proximal interphalangeal joints), corresponding to what is known in Karate terminology as Shikanken.
