Jōdan Nukite – Tani Otoshi from Kote Gaeshi

⛩️ Source

The content of this video comes from the leading figures of the Yoseikan Aikidō school of Minoru Mochizuki Sensei. This instruction is still given by one of their assistants, Terumi Washizu Sensei, founder of Gyukushin Ryū Aikidō in Shizuoka, Japan, who taught at the former Yoseikan Hombu dojo in Shizuoka.

🔖 Technique Notes

Uke strikes with a Jōdan Nukite. Tori evades to the outside, entering with a Tenkan pivot and ending side by side with Uke while seizing Uke’s wrist with his lead hand. He steps back with his lead leg as Uke turns to face him and attempts a Kote Gaeshi. Uke counters by grabbing Tori’s wrist—the one over Uke’s hand—and pulling it as he steps backward. Tori uses Uke’s backward movement to enter deeply, dropping one leg behind Uke’s legs and leaning back, taking Uke down with a Tani Otoshi variation.
