🔖 Technique Notes

Tori seizes the sleeve of Uke’s lead hand with both hands, pulling to enter on the outside and reaching behind to grab Uke’s collar with his lead hand. He then re-enters to the inside, pivots and drops onto both knees, placing his lead knee between Uke’s feet, attempting to load Uke onto his shoulders for a Kata Guruma. To counter, Uke steps behind Tori and lowers his center of gravity, preventing the lift. Tori responds by pivoting on one knee to face Uke again, releasing the sleeve to reach over Uke’s rear shoulder and seize the belt at the back. Bringing his feet together, Tori jumps and falls backward, pulling Uke through the rear collar and belt grips while hooking Uke’s rear thigh from the inside with his lead leg, executing a Sumi Gaeshi. Rather than sending Uke far behind him, Tori continues into a backward roll, coming up on top in a mounted position.
